White Chinese Goose

Not much to say about it. I'm glad to have a painting to post. This was a goose at Almansor Park. I liked its reflection. I didn't know it was a Chinese goose until a few minutes ago. I would know so much less without the internet. I find water pretty difficult to render convincingly in watercolor, and that seems ironic. White feathers are beautiful; even more than white flowers, they are luminous and all colors lurk in their shadows.

  1. I like it, and the irony. Was that really how the reflection looked?

  2. Yes and no. It looked somewhat like that, especially the shape, but I didn't get it right. I decided it would be better to leave it (at some point), because otherwise it would end up looking overworked and scrubbed, which I think is often a worse look than simply wrong.

Thank you for commenting. The goose was feeling no love. Although maybe I discouraged comments myself with "not much to say about it."

  3. Well, in the Taoist perspective: there's not much to say about anything. Words words. I liked the simplistic approach, and this was quickly one of my favorites. Not sure what render means, but this water looks boss.
