Am I blue? Orange? Violet?

This didn't go as I'd planned. The mouth is very wrong, mostly I think because I couldn't decide how to hold my mouth and I kept moving it. I'll shut up about how I don't like my face, because I think in fact I'm nicer looking than the painting. There's a hint of me in this, just as there's a hint of a painting that's not so bad. I give myself credit for being courageously loose here. I obviously could use a lot more practice on my portrait painting. But I'm also looking forward to retreating into my comfort zone. Calypso Moon Artist Movement Challenge, take two.

  1. Barbara, I like the way you used the bright colors to define your facial features. But I also like your 1st version, I think it's softness most likely reveals who you really are.

  2. This is a very abstract portrait! I can see you in there somewhere, at least the "you" similar to the "you" in your pastel. It's kind of hard to see your features, but it's a great use of colors and, as you say, loose painting. Good for you and now it's done!

  3. Barbara, Take two is much stronger and has more of an impact. In both pieces I noticed how the features seem to be elongated similar to Amedeo Modigliani. The tired and weary look grabs my attention and keeps me interested. Thanks for not giving up and for allowing the paint to flow.
