I think I'd like to have an art show some day. I certainly have more than enough material already, but not only is it inconsistent in quality,it's inconsistent in virtually every way. It is a mishmash. It has no unity and no focus, and I think it might look cheesy if it were displayed all together. So I thought it was time to do a series. This is the first painting in that first series.
I really love the color blend on the body and the transparency of the wings Barbara! This is a feast to look at.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean, it happens with most of us. In fact, with the same intention, I have started not a series but groups of 4 or 2 so that they look like tailor made for one customer.
Great start on what I think will be a very interesting series. Love the work in this one -- and I'm the same. I have such a mishmosh of work also. I have a few that I think (thought?) would be the start of a series, but it hasn't happened yet. Looking forward to seeing your series - perhaps it will help me to focus a bit too!
ReplyDeleteseries you have:
ReplyDeletefamily
roadways of california
gouache
pets
coffee gallery
south pasadena landmarks
your home
but anyways, this one is typically beautiful. Who's the friend you had in mind for the coffee gallery one?
Thank you for the encouragement. I'm on to the second one, but slowly. Joey: I'm offering the Coffee Gallery picture to Tom, because he wanted the first one, but it was sold. I didn't send you paintings in the birthday box because I was totally daunted by the four item limit on the customs claim form. But plenty of paintings will come your way. And love.
ReplyDeleteI love the smooth texture of the leaf. When I watercolor my smooth textures are anything but. What's your secret? I love the colors and my son, the "poop fly" lover, is crazy about the subject! A great job!
ReplyDeletePaula: That's right! It is a poop fly. Thank goodness they spend some time on leaves too. The smooth texture/even wash is a little tricky. It's all about keeping the water content constant, and working continuously from the wet edge. And sometimes it works.
ReplyDeleteYou should do a series of bugs. This is stunning. I love it. Love the fly but love the shadows.
ReplyDeleteyou would be...
ReplyDeletei forgot to mention, this is awesome
You've made the fly look like Elyse/ LOL
ReplyDeleteIt is a great painting of an insect.
I really admire your watercolor and your comments on my blog. I keep wanting to jump over to acrylics but this journey in discovering watercolor takes time. So I won't abandon ship yet - I'll keep "rowing" and taking rest stops at your blog for inspiration. Your photography is outstanding. What kind of camera do you use?
ReplyDeleteIt's a canon powershot sd750 - your basic nice point and shoot. I've played with it and gradually gotten more familiar with the settings and what the camera can do; I take pictures every day, occasionally hundreds. That's the nice thing about digital cameras - not worrying about wasting film or waiting for pictures.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the fly, I'll keep checking back to see your bugs.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen a fly painted so nicely!
