Two From Caltech
I live fairly close to Caltech. By several reckonings, none of them having to do with football, it is the finest university in the United States. I visit occasionally to paint, and more frequently for musical performances. I used to folkdance weekly. I've heard wonderful speakers there, including Stephen Jay Gould and Ralph Nader. Nader spoke about how, lacking in public funds, universities tend to become bound to corporate interests. Gould spoke about evolution and the marvels of life.

Sounds like fun Barbara. Universities can be fun to plein air paint. I've been to Rice University, lots of interesting architecture. Nice watercolors.

Thanks for visiting Randall. I've never visited Rice, but yes, I think just behind churches and theaters, colleges have some great architectural efforts.
DeleteIt's so close and yet I've rarely taken advantage of it. And funny you should mention folk dancing. I used to do that too when I was a kid. Do they still have folk dancing?
ReplyDeleteI've read in the folk music publications that the Caltech folkdancers now dance at the Unitarian Church. And they're older people. But then so am I. May just have to revisit one day.
ReplyDeleteThats great - maybe they're the same people as when we were there.
DeleteLove your fresh colors in these two pieces Barbara!
