In a Canyon

In early November, I painted at Mary's Market in Sierra Madre Canyon.  This a view looking over the bridge and up the road.  It's a really lovely area.  Sort of a little local Topanga Canyon, or maybe more like Brigadoon.  I've known and know a few people who live up there, and several more over the years who wanted to.

I like the painting, even though it's kind of cluttered and confused.  And there's plants in a planter box that look sort of like a giant red-eyed lizard.

  1. I like it too. The shadows cast on the ground & wall are wonderful - gives it a nice feel and makes me think I am there.

  2. All the years I've spent here I had only visited the outskirts of Sierra Madre. But thanks to the blog-sphere, I discovered Mary's and the joy of walking through this sweet hood.

Not an easy painting to make. Lots of activity but you managed not to muddle it up. You may not have lived your life under the term "professional" but the artist thing is in you. I know you have it - I remember it from High School. You were making a replica from one of cat Stevens drawings/painting. It was so good and I was envious of your level of skill. Probably a freshman when you were either a junior or senior.

  5. I've been to Mary's Market - every once in awhile Mike and I will drive over there and through the little village of people. I love that place. I am loving all the paintings I'm seeing you have here. I need to be more diligent in visiting my fellow bloggers. After moving to the mountains I keep so busy doing ....whatever strikes my fancy I guess, and that includes a lot of bird watching.
